Common questions
What counts as a request?
One letter sent to one agency. Drafts, follow-ups, appeals and replies don't count against your limit. A campaign sent to 12 agencies uses 12 requests. See the Help guide on requests. Read the guide
What's my monthly limit?
Free gives you 1 request a month, Pro gives 10 per user, and Team gives 100 per user. Requests are pooled across the account, reset each billing period, and don't roll over. At the cap you can still write drafts; an admin upgrades to send more. See Pricing. See the Help guide on billing. Read the guide
Who can see a request?
Admins see every request; a member sees the requests they created and the ones assigned to them. Nothing is ever sent without your explicit click to send. See the Help guide on teams. Read the guide
Which agencies does FOIAGen cover?
Federal departments, state agencies, and local bodies down to city halls, counties and school districts, each written to that agency's own rules. See the Help guide on agencies. Read the guide
Will I definitely get records?
No. FOIAGen gets your request to the right agency, written to its rules, and tracks every deadline — but the outcome is up to the agency. We don't promise a response or a release. See the Help guide on documents and appeals. Read the guide
Is this legal advice?
No. FOIAGen helps you draft and track public-records requests; it isn't a substitute for a lawyer. See our Acceptable use and Terms pages.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Billing is monthly with no contract. Cancel from your account's Billing page whenever you like. See the Help guide on billing. Read the guide
